Mass Intentions

Dear parishioners,
Our parish staff and I have felt the need to reevaluate the process for requesting Mass Intentions to accommodate fairly the many requests our parish receives to have Mass offered for a loved one. After much discussion and preparation, I am pleased to share with you our new guidelines that will go into effect on September 1.

Mass Intention Guidelines
Effective September 1, 2024
The practice of requesting a Mass to be offered for loved ones, living or deceased, is a beautiful and meaningful part of our Catholic tradition. In our parish, we have many requests for
scheduling such Mass intentions. We try to honor these to the best of our ability and in accordance with the Code of Canon Law for the universal Catholic Church. As such, the following guidelines are being implemented in order to accommodate the numerous requests in a reasonable and fair manner.

The Mass Intention book for the 2025 calendar year opens September 2024.

Requesting a Mass:
Mass Intentions will be honored in the parish on a first-come, first-served basis, in the order in which the request is received. Requests for Mass Intentions may be requested in person at the Parish Office, or by U.S. mail. If mailing intention requests please include Attn: Mass Intentions to the address. No intentions will be accepted over the phone or by email.

When requesting a Mass Intention, please use the Mass Intention Request Form found on our Parish website, in the gathering space or from the Parish Office.

A $10 stipend is suggested per Mass Intention, as determined by Archdiocesan policy, which goes toward the parish. A Mass offering may be more than the suggested stipend. Please write checks payable to Church of St. Peter.
- Daily Mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays will have Collective Mass intentions, with up to 5 Mass Intentions each. The Church allows for a priest to celebrate two (2) Masses a week with Collective Mass intentions, which means that more than one (1) Mass intention can be offered at that Mass. All names will be read at Mass and listed in the bulletin.
- Donors will be informed of and must consent to the combining of their offerings for these
  Masses.
- The parish will only keep one of the stipends for a Mass intention and the remainder will be sent to the Center for Mission for forwarding to a mission diocese, which greatly aids the universal Church.
At the time the 2025 book opens, each household or group may request a maximum of twelve (12) Mass Intentions a year, which includes:
Mass requests will be granted as close to the requested date and time as possible. If it is not possible to comply with the primary request, the next closest date will be scheduled. If we move a request to a different date and/or time, we will contact you with the updated information. PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY.

One Mass every Sunday is scheduled for the intentions of our parishioners, known as “Pro Populo” (For the People), as required by the Church’s Cannon Law. At our parish, the 10:30 AM Mass is always “Pro Populo.”

Mass Intentions cannot be scheduled for the three (3) days of the Sacred Triduum: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, or Holy Saturday, as these have traditional intentions.

Mass Intentions will be accepted for:
- Christmas (Eve/Day) Masses (except for the 4:00 PM Vigil Mass, which is “Pro Populo”),
- Thanksgiving Day Mass, and
- Easter Sunday Masses (except for the 9:00 A.M. Mass, which is “Pro-Populo”).
These intentions, however, may be repeated, at most, on a
bi-annual (every other year) basis. This is to allow as many parishioners as possible to offer their intentions during these most holy days.

Generally, the Mass Intentions will be published in the parish bulletin and announced at each Mass.
