The aim of faith formation is to effectively pass on the faith; to impart the Truth to others. At the heart of this ‘passing on’ is the person of Jesus Christ. Our work in Faith Formation is to nurture an environment where others can be open to an encounter with Him and be helped to identify His Presence and Significance in their lives. There is no better place than communal, shared family life to begin to experience this– His Presence every day, in every aspect of life. Whether we identify our education ministry as ‘family formation’ or not, the fact remains that it is the life of the family that forms the early faith of the child. We offer the following to assist your family:
We invite all families, both from the school and from the parish, and all parishioners to join us on the 1st Sunday of each month for a two-hour Family Faith Formation event. All are invited to attend 10:30 Mass, share lunch together, and then participate in an activity specific to their developmental stage or age.
Parents and other adults will attend an adult formation moment while children aged 4-7th grade will be guided by catechists to explore the same topic. Our themes and topics will follow the liturgical year.
Our CGS classes for preK-grade 6 children will be offered on Wednesdays, either at 4:30-6 pm or 6:30-8 p.m. CGS is a faith formation method rooted in Scripture, the liturgy of the church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Rather than a classroom, children gather in an “atrium,” a room specially prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials that they use.
Guided by a simple three-part rule, Fellowship of the Keys is for students in grades 5-8, both from the school and the parish, and will meet on Friday evenings from 6:30-8 p.m. Our rule: Jesus gives us something in every moment. If I don’t see it, I will pray about it. If I do see it, I will share it with others.
for students in grades 9-12, will take place on Wednesdays, from 6:30-8 pm.
for students in grades 8-12 will take place on Wednesdays, from 6-8:30 pm. Additional retreats will be required during the year.
Children in 2nd grade will be prepared to receive these sacraments during CGS classes. Students who did not attend CGS last year, or who are older than 2nd grade will be enrolled in a classroom-style sacramental preparation class during the 6:30-8 p.m. time period. Two additional retreats will be required.
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Children, for students in grades 2-12 who have not been baptized and are seeking Sacraments, will take place on Wednesdays, from 6:30-8 p.m.
